Story Analysis Questions

Questions to answer about your story:

1. What is the "goal" of the main character?
Goal is physical or external - what is he/she is physically trying to do?

Snotball the main character is searching for the golden fire hydrant as the characters goal throughout the whole piece.

2. What is the "need" of the main character? What are his/her fatal internal flaws?
Need is internal - the internal deficiency in the character that needs to be corrected

The need of the character is to get the golden fire hydrant within the few minutes that Snotball’s brother sets for the character.

3. What is the difficult choice the character has to make? What is the central dilemma?

The central dilemma for the character is to get the thing she wants which is the golden fire hydrant within the time that the character is given. The choice that is being made is to either go for the adventure or to turn back and not take on the adventure.

4. Using the concept of Projection as described in the DVD, if you go inside the head of the character, what is the worst thing that can happen (face their worst fear)? What is the psychological obstacle?

The character Snotball's worst fear besides losing her family is the idea that the character has to face the fear of being in the dark and being scared of the dark.

5. What/who is the antagonist? How does the antagonist embody the inner conflict of the protagonist?

The story focuses on one character.

6. What is the relationship between the antagonist and the protagonist?

As I said there is only one character that the character focuses.

7. Describe the character arc - the need drives the story - can't get the goal because of inner conflict - character must overcome internal problem before they get the goal. You have to hit bottom before coming back up.

The need that drives the story is the need to get the golden fire hydrant. In the end the goal is achieve but in the end the character realizes that they didn’t get what they wanted in the end because it was the wrong toy, instead of the chewy one the character got the sweaky one.

8. What is the climax of your story?

The climax of the story is when they get the toy they think they want and suddenly the ground shacks beneath them and Snotball turns around and sees this giant hairball coming at the character and before the character can run the hair ball runs over the character taking Snotball with it.

9. Describe the resolution? The resolution comes after the BIG choice has been made - it is the aftermath.

The resolution that ends is the character is then taken for a ride on the giant hair ball and at the end is thrown out of the temple with a little sound going off with the saying something. Snotball goes flying throw the air and lands in the car. The car then heads off in the end and we hear the main character say that they wanted the chewy one instead and so the resolution is that character got the toy in the end but it wasn’t the one they originally wanted.

10. The theme is how they resolve the dilemma. What is the theme of your story?
The theme of the story is going to get the golden fire hydrant.

Some poses for class

Here are some poses for the animation project I did with the Free Rig. It was fun and easy to start the pose but I know there is more that I have to do with these things in order to make them look believable.

Animation Paragraph Story

Paragraph Story Snotball Adventure
“The quest for the Golden Fire Hydrant.”

It is a sunny afternoon as the sound of car can be heard in the distance. The heat off the asphalt can be seen everywhere. The sound of the car gets closer and closer, finally the sound begins to slow down and the brakes begin to sound. The wheels finally come to a stop, as seconds pass, we can hear the sound of a car door opening. With a light up hevel of dust we can see two furry paws standing on the warm asphalt, the camera pulls up and we can see the big time dog seeking adventurer Fur Paws Jones. We cut to a shot of the massive store, as it stands in the middle of this asphalt desert, standing tall with the look of thousands of years old to the young pup’s eyes.
As we see the young adventure seeking pup looking onward to the huge structure, a voice comes from inside the car. It’s brother as he instructs the pup on her mission, “All right Snotball now I’ll be back in a few minutes, so be back here with the golden fire hydrant.” She turns to her big brother with an understanding of what must be, “You’ve got it brother.” Snotball is then off on her adventure, as the camera then focuses on a far away shot of her walking towards the temple off in the distance.
Upon reaching the huge stone doors, Snotball tries to push the doors open and keeps on pushing, but the huge stone doors will not move. With a look of frustration on the young adventurer’s face, she tries once more to open the stone doors. With one final push the doors slide open, the sound of a convenience store signals a customer. As Snotball begins to walk into the huge temple store, she realizes it is very dark and scary. As the doors close behind her, she sees as the rows of torches dimly lit showing her the way to her prize the golden fire hydrant. As she gets a look of pure joy on her face, she begins a mad dash for her prize only to notice the ground give way and now our little adventurer is faced with a very big hole.
Snotball looks around to see if there is anything that can be used to get across. Snotball looking to the left sees nothing of use. Then our adventurer looks to the right only to find nothing again. Finally, looking above Snotball sees a rack of leashes. Grabbing one Snotball thinks, “Awkward” and after a brief moment looks for something to hook it to. Seeing only the rack of leashes, Snotball then throws the leash rapping it around and walks back to prepare for this daring jump. Snotball then runs forward and swings only to realize when she is half way across that she has no thumbs and so slips off the leash to land grabbing a hold of the ledge. She scrambles to get to up and afterwards makes it up.
Being very wary of where our hero steps, she begins to tip top across the rest of the way to this most sought after prize. With a look of awe on Snotball’s face, the image of the golden fire hydrant begins to fill the very pup’s eyes. Upon reaching this wondrous prize, Snotball begins to look around for other dangers that may yet lurk unknown to this adventurer. Now with the very image of this golden prize filling her eyes, she prepares to grab it. With the music playing such a dramatic tone, Snotball then looks up and gives a very bored look on her face and just simply grabs the fire Hydrant. Now with a look on absolute joy on Snotball’s face, our hero walks off in a joy full little stroll. Only to get a few feet away before the ground begins to shake beneath our hero’s very paws.
As rubble falls all around Snotball, our hero looks back only to see coming from the darkness what appears to be a giant hairball. As the giant hair ball rumbles down the path, our hero looks on with a sudden sinking feeling, as Snotball’s pupils shrunk with overwhelming fear. Before our hero can move to even begin to run, the giant hair ball is on top of the poor adventurous pup. As the giant hairball rolls down the temple store’s aisles the sounds of the Snotball can be heard echoing throughout the whole temple store. As the camera focuses on her, she continues to roll along with the giant hair ball, as Snotball says, “EWWWWW it’s in my fur, it’s in my fur.” The giant hair ball then begins its final dissent to the front of the temple store doors. The camera focuses now on Snotball’s face as our adventurous pup sees the door and looks to find that they are not opening. Snotball’s eyes begin to shut to what is to come next. When the doors slide open and Snotball is then thrown off the giant hair ball, our adventurous pup goes flying through the air. The camera focuses on Snotball’s face screaming while flying through the air. Snotball finally hits the ground with a slight squeak as our hero bounces up and down, up and down. The car door opens up as Snotball lands back in the car, and the car then begins to drive off. As the car begins to drive off we hear squeaky sounds coming from the disappearing car, and Snotball finally saying, “Awe nuts, the squeaky one; I wanted the chewy one.”

Snotball Character finsihed product

Here are the Snotball finished products. Though the fur has no detail on it, fur I realized is very difficult to crate in Photoshop or even coloring it in photoshop was a bit of a challenge so i just decided to put in the basic colors.
